The 50 workplaces recognized for being the most community-minded in Colorado, the 2019 The Civic 50 Colorado support long-term environmental sustainability. As Raju Patel, Denver market president of Bank of America put it, “By working with our communities and cities, we can have a positive environmental impact for generations to come.” Examples of the environmental practices of The Civic 50 Colorado honorees follow.
  • Bank of America’s Environmental Business Initiative deploys capital to low-carbon, sustainable business activities supporting clients around the globe. Since 2007, the company has directed more than $158 billion to these efforts and has committed an additional $300 billion over the next ten years to drive more sustainable business solutions and advance the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals. In its own operations, it achieved carbon neutrality and purchases 100% renewable electricity.
  • Comcast NBCUniversal is working toward a zero-emissions goal on its entire operational fleet, including Xfinity vans, trucks, SUVs, and sedans, as well the vehicles that support their theme parks, film and television production studios, and news teams. For example, they've installed fuel efficiency software in many cable vans, trucks, and SUVs. This software has improved fuel efficiency by about 6% and reduces emissions by about one ton per vehicle per year.
  • Janus Henderson has been a certified Carbon Neutral® business for 12 years.
  • Bill Coors introduced the first recyclable aluminum can in 1959, inspiring the US corporate-sustainability movement; and today Molson Coors continues to promote sustainability by operating one of the most water, energy and waste-to-landfill efficient breweries in the world in Golden, Colorado.

Being environmentally sustainable is one aspect of being a community-minded business and an increasingly urgent one. Thankfully, many The Civic 50 Colorado honorees are doing their part.
